No love, no glory

If a guy were to break up with a girl for no good reason (actually most of the reasons are no good), the guy's reputation would be tarnished. His popularity will be non-existent or negative and all he has left are his family and real friends. And games. I once told my brother not to play around with his relationship or else it will cost him his reputation. A friend is present at the time I was discussing this theory. My theory is proven right as it is happening to him.

What are the factors which affect this theory:
1. Influential reach
2. Attractiveness
3. Reputation

1. Influential reach
This is a very important factor because whoever is more influential, he/she will determine how the breakup story goes. The breakup story of the more influential side is 'correct' because that version will reach more people and once the story has been crosschecked by the surrounding friends, whichever version is told the most will be the 'real' version of breakup story. If this is hard to understand, imagine a food web. You do take science classes, right?

Whichever side is popular on any social networking site will affect how the story is being told. Often, the female side has many 'sisters' who try help avenge the dignity of the victimized individual. The news feed will be full of angry threats by these 'sisters', ruining the male's reputation into shambles. It's true that the female has more unity than the male. Seldom you will see a guy standing up for his best friend who is being attacked verbally by a horde of banshees.

2. Attractiveness
The attractiveness of the subject will also be a weapon of mass destruction against the ex. I have a friend who was once with a pretty and quite popular girl. When they broke up, the girl (who has a lot of admirers) posted some stuff on Facebook. She made the breakup sound very devastating and portrayed herself as the victim. Few weeks later, I hear from another friend of mine that an admirer wanted to beat the living hell out of my friend because he made the girl suffer. So beware if you're going to breakup with someone who has a legion of fans.

3. Reputation
Your reputation plays a big part because people often judge you by your past. Which is very unfair. So if your past is very shady or messed up, the chances of your reputation being destroyed is 100% confirmed. Imagine a situation where you were once a playboy but this time your girlfriend cheated on you with another guy, who would believe your side of the story? You will look like a hypocrite.

So my friend right now is emo-ing everyday. He broke up with A and his reputation isn't worth saving anymore. Furthermore, he likes B which a lot of people know and this fact is not helping him at all. B is avoiding him because A is her good friend and she doesn't want to look like a skank. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
The Good Ending manga. Recommended.
